If there is a UN Convention that drew the attention of a large number of analysts and civil society actors, it is the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Signed by 81 states on March 30, 2007, this UN Convention has been one of the most successful NGOs actions. This success was also a catalyst for other NGOs to develop new projects of conventions.
The International Conference on the Role of NGOs in Global Governance will debate on the role of NGOs in the establishment of new UN conventions and resolutions. With the presence of Lakhdar Brahimi, Pascal Boniface, Henri Rouillé d’Orfeuil, and several other esteemed personalities, the conference will try to provide answers for the following questions:
- Can NGOs have influence on the decision-making processes of governments?
- Can we interpret the actions of NGOs as a result to the inaction of governments?
- To what extent can NGOs influence the emergence of new regulations in international law?
