Today, eradicating poverty is considered as one of the most important challenges facing NGOs. The statistics and studies about people living with less than a dollar a day are alarming more and more governments and NGOs fighting against poverty.
Boosted by their success in providing concrete –sometimes astounding- actions and solutions in several conflicts and problems, NGOs against poverty are currently striving to have better results in one of the most intricate issues in the 21th century, which is the eradication of poverty.
The International Conference to be held in Lyon, on the 12th and 13th of February 2008, will try to debate on the role of NGOs against poverty in the development of new plans and schemas for the eradication of poverty. The conference will also question the scope of intervention of NGOs and the influence and responsibilities they are allowed to have.
