Today, the increase in the number of conflicts, coupled with the relative failure of the aid to developing countries in lifting Africans out of poverty, raise the question of the role of INGOs in the governance of international development programs: shall governments delegate some of the intricate tasks to INGOs? Do INGOs have the adequate personnel, equipment and financial facilities to tackle today’s conflicts and problems?

All these questions and others will be discussed in the International Conference on the Role of NGOs in Global Governance. Held in Lyon on the 12th and 13th of February 2008, the conference will be attended by several internationally-renowned personalities, among whom Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN former Special Adviser to the Secretary-General; Mr. Pascal Boniface, Director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations; and Mr. Henri Rouillé d’Orfeuil, Chairman of “Coordination SUD”.

The conference will focus essentially on the growing influence of INGOs in global governance, as well as on their role in international cooperation and development.
