Humanitarian international intervention is the main activity of NGOs. Endeavouring to alleviate the suffering of civilians and to help them endure the plagues of war, NGOs developed their work techniques and strategies and are gradually becoming influential on the international scene.

As the voice of civil society, NGOs have become key players in international cooperation and development processes. The wide media coverage of their operations, together with the support of renowned showbiz and political personalities, helped NGOs invigorate public opinion and gain its support in most of the controversial issues.

Today, the role of NGOs in humanitarian international interventions is getting more and more questionable. The International Conference to be held in Lyon on the 12th and 13th of February will debate on the importance of NGOs and their influence on the public opinion. Mr Lakhdar Brahimi, together with several other internationally-renowned figures, will discuss all the facets related to the development of the role of NGOs in the resolution of international issues.
