The future of NGOs in global governance

The recent developments in international relations and cooperation makes it is quite difficult for analysts and NGOs-experts to predict the future of NGOs. In fact, the actions of NGOs are getting more and more perceived as a corollary to the inaction of governments. The successful International Campaign on the Ban of Landmines, the Ottawa Treaty, and the Oslo Process are testimonial to the efficiency of NGOs in issues that governmental cooperation couldn’t solve.

The International Conference on the Role of NGOs in Global Governance aims to prepare the future of NGOs and to debate on the growing influence of NGOs on governments’ decisions. Hosted by Handicap International on the 12th and 13th of February in the “Centre de Congrès” in Lyon, the conference will be attended by internationally-renowned figures, among which Mr Brahimi Lakhdar, the UN former Special Adviser to the Secretary-General, and Mr Pascal Boniface, Director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations.
