The continuous increase in the number and scale of democracy NGOs operations, together with the growing media coverage of these operations, lead us to wonder at the influence that this kind of NGOs can have on governments and people in general.

Present all over the world, and mostly in places where democracy is not working properly or is not established at all, democracy NGOs undertake the complicated role of mediating between local governments and persecuted political activists. Democracy NGOs try also to promote democracy in colleges, schools and amid the youth population, whenever they are allowed to do it.

The International Conference on the Role of NGOs will try to address the issues related to the work of democracy NGOs, and will debate on the role of NGOs in the resolution of international problems and conflicts. Mr Brahimi Lakhdar, the UN former Special Adviser to the Secretary-General, together with Mr Pascal Boniface, Director of the Institute for International and Strategic Relations; and several other prominent figures of politics, economics, and humanitarian actions on the international scene, will exchange their viewpoints with the participants, in a constructive and mind-expanding debate.
